With an awareness of and love for country music’s tools, Stella Darla attempts to reinterpret a songwriting tradition. Her storytelling songs reflect both her upbringing in Vendsyssel and explore the complexities of friendships, sexuality, and the search for identity. With her playful approach to the Danish language, Stella Darla is unafraid to quote Medina and reference sexual abuse in the same song.
Behind Stella Darla is singer, songwriter, and producer Emilie Ohrt, who was previously part of the dreampop duo Audrey and has written music for and appeared in the film ‘Blåt Lys’. However, it is as Stella Darla that she has found her most personal stories as a songwriter. Stella Darla's debut album, ‘Miss Nordjylland’, was released in November 2024 through Playground Music.
On stage, she is accompanied by a band that, with its combination of acoustic guitar, synthesizers, and vocal harmonies, creates a space that accommodates both the acoustic and the ethereal. It’s like waking up in the middle of the night and turning on a film you’ve never seen before, but somehow, you feel like you know it.
