Faroese-Danish artist Baldur blends North Atlantic synthpop and indie disco at the intersection of electronic and organic sounds. This sonic landscape can be experienced on the EP ‘Future Sports’, which the 25-year-old synthpop artist will release on May 8, 2026.
Future Sports is, as the title suggests, sci-fi disco, synthpop, and sports vibes, a sound that paradoxically emerged in the Faroe Islands, where the EP’s seven tracks were written during a dark winter writing retreat, inspired by Faroese nightlife and the longing for spring.
The lyrics, written in English, explore people trying to find movement in a life where they feel frozen. They speak of escaping stagnation, from the office, writer’s block, and stagnant relationships, and fighting to grow and find one’s own path. Across the songs, themes of pressure, competition, and self-development are woven together through sci-fi metaphors, portraying the world as an interstellar journey, a nightlife society, a system - or a sport.
