Jessie Ka, the North Jutland singer and songwriter, released her debut album 'Girls in Subtopia' last year in October. The album emerged in the wake of a difficult period in her life. Pernille Dige Weltz – Jessie Ka’s given name – had lived with stress symptoms for several years, and music became her salvation.
Thematically, 'Girls in Subtopia' is a concept album rooted in Jessie Ka’s upbringing and life as a young woman in small towns in "the dark heart of Jutland." All the songs are inspired by her own personal experiences. The album explores themes of identity, the nice girl complex, the struggle to be true to oneself, societal expectations of what a "real girl/woman" should be, and the courage to follow one’s heart. Throughout the album, you can hear the influence of Jessie Ka’s major inspirations, including MØ, Robyn, Lydmor, and Tove Lo.
However, the live stage is where Jessie Ka’s heart truly lies. In addition to headlining concerts and performing at various festivals, she has also supported artists such as Tessa, Lydmor, and Jacob Bellens.
