Stemmer i Voks is a project created by core members of the folktronica ensemble Sorten Muld. The music is based on a collection of raw phonograph recordings from the Jutland heath dating back to the early 1900s. Cracking wax cylinders that preserve the songs that still lived among the smallholders of the heath at the threshold of a new era. Songs that, despite the hardships of the time, celebrate humanity’s unwavering pursuit of happiness and love.
The voices from the wax cylinders sing alongside Ulla Bendixen in new, twilight-dark compositions featuring harmonium, mandolin, detuned piano, cello, double bass, and subtle electronics woven into the soundscape. With great care, Stemmer i Voks reaches back in time, drawing the people and stories of the heath into our present world - building bridges across time and generations.
