HAWA KASSE MADY DIABATE TOUMARO ORCHESTRA presents a performance that revolves around Hawa’s soaring, rounded vibrato vocal. Her voice and vocal performance has been compared by some to Mahalia Jackson. The musical director of TOUMARO ORCHESTRA, is the legendary son of Bassekou Kouyate, the well known N’Goni bass player, Madou Kouyate, who is also part of Trio Da Kali. Madou recently recorded with Marcus Miller. Guitarist Lassine Kouyate, Hawa’s son, brings his grandfather’s guitar playing style to the music. Fode Kouyaté on the N’Goni and Mamadou Koné on percussion, all recorded on TOUMARO. Together they bring a contemporary, creative suggestion to their musical art, breathing new life back into this ancient tradition. Hawa Kasse Mady Diabate performances offer a rare glimpse into the soul of the art of the griot, celebrating the African continent’s finest, most subtle and sublime music.
