Girl Scout is a Swedish quartet consisting of Emma Jansson, Viktor Spasov, Per Lindberg, and Evelina Arvidsson Eklind. Jansson and Spasov met while studying jazz at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, bonding over playing Burt Bacharach and Beatles songs and their shared love for Stranger Things and Big Thief. They had ambitions to make their musical partnership something larger than life itself, which led them to invite their fellow Royal College of Music student, Eklind, and Spasov’s friend, Lindberg, to complete the band’s lineup.
Girl Scout has been compared to everything from The Breeders to Snail Mail while bringing a sonic finesse that often surpasses these names in vivid technicolor 4K.
The band released their second EP, ‘Granny Music’, in 2023—a five-track collection that continued their unique sound, supported by the single ‘Boy in Blue’. Their latest EP release, ‘Headache’ (2024), further builds on their solid and exciting discography.
Few bands manage to create daring, mesmerizing noise without compromising melody, but Jansson and Spasov’s songwriting chemistry has resulted in impeccable, unexpected algorithms within their work. Their songs rarely take predictable paths, yet somehow they sound both traditional and electrifying, as if crafted by any young, hungry alt-rock band with the resources to aim high.
Starting a band these days can be almost impossibly challenging, and creating truly great music is even harder. Girl Scout seems to have cracked the code. Their path forward appears limitless. Perhaps the moon is the only landing spot for Jansson, Spasov, Lindberg, and Eklind—or maybe even that is too short a distance.
