Emily Bowen’s songs feel like the soundtrack to a coming-of-age indie film from the 2000s, where the protagonist slowly but surely grows into a life that’s anything but black and white. Her debut single, ‘Honey’, burst onto Danish radio as P3’s “Unavoidable Track of The Week”, and in early 2025, Emily released her debut album, ‘Hate Me For This’. The organic pop album is infused with the lived experiences of the 20-year-old newcomer. Written like a diary, the songs reveal pages full of confessions, truths, pain, smiles, humor, and an honest, vulnerable openness to the first-time experiences we all face from birth to death.
The aforementioned debut single, ‘Honey’, set the stage in spring 2024 with its charming, noisy indie-pop vibe and lyrics that read like a diary entry. While the song appeared to reflect a friend’s destructive thoughts and chaotic life, it ultimately pointed back to the songwriter herself. In her creative exploration, Emily’s empathetic and curious nature led her to new studios and collaborators. Among them was producer Rasmus Søegren (known for work with eee gee, Dopha, Hjalmer, and more), whose meticulous, innovative approach to music became the perfect match for Emily’s debut album.
Over the past year, Emily Bowen’s music has taken root on the live scene as well, with a performance at Smukfest and a supporting tour with English band Maximo Park. Danish online magazine Soundvenue has also named her one of the 15 most promising artists of 2025.
