AI is on Everyone’s Lips, and the Music Industry is in the Midst of a Technological Revolution. Artificial intelligence is both challenging and inspiring the music industry. What does it mean when machines can create music? Where is the line between a creative tool and a copying machine? And how does this impact artists, copyright, and the future of the music industry?
We will explore these questions at this year’s SPOT+, where our long-time partner, Koda, has put together a strong program that brings AI into focus and invites the audience to join the debate.

Double Keynote on AI and Music: Art Machine or Copy Machine? When AI Remembers Too Much

Music creation has always been a human domain—until now. Generative AI can produce and mimic existing music at a speed that challenges artists, rights holders, music users, legislators, and our culture itself.
In this double keynote, we will take a closer look at the clash between generative AI and copyright and examine why AI models sometimes produce outright plagiarism.
Nicolai Franck, Tech Scout at Koda, will provide an overview of the legal cases against AI music companies that have gained momentum in the past year. He will highlight the paradox of AI companies acknowledging that their technology cannot function without access to copyrighted works—while at the same time arguing that they should not have to pay for it. Using concrete examples, he will demonstrate how AI music services plagiarize megahits and illustrate how unregulated AI threatens artists’ income and a sustainable economy in the music industry.
Next, Anders Søgaard, Professor of AI and Language Models at the University of Copenhagen, will explain how generative music AI works. What does it mean when an AI can “remember” parts of its training material—is this a bug or a feature? Where is the line between inspiration and copying when a machine learns from millions of songs? And is it even possible to identify which songs contribute to an AI-generated output?

What is it like as an artist, composer, and singer when your heart, emotions, and personality are copied and imitated by AI? Pernille Rosendahl will share her thoughts in this interview with Marie Høst.
Pernille will also discuss her experiences meeting with politicians and navigating the EU’s political system, where copyright is often seen as an obstacle to technological development, competitiveness, and innovation in relation to the U.S. and China. Music, culture, technology, and global politics have truly collided in the age of AI.

Musikskabelse har altid været menneskets domæne – indtil nu. Generativ AI kan producere og efterligne eksisterende musik med en hastighed, der udfordrer både kunstnere, rettighedshavere, musikbrugere, lovgivere og vores kultur.
I denne dobbelt-keynote stiller vi skarpt på clashet mellem generativ AI og ophavsret, og dykker ned i, og hvorfor AI-modeller nogle gange laver rendyrket plagiat.

Hvordan opleves det som kunstner, komponist og sangerinde, når ens hjerteblod, følelser og personlighed bliver kopieret og imiteret af en AI? Det giver Pernille Rosendahl sin version af i dette interview med Marie Høst.
Pernille vil desuden fortælle om sit møde med politikere og det politiske system i EU, hvor det er blevet tydeligt, at ophavsrettigheder anses som stående i vejen for den teknologiske udvikling, og Europas konkurrence- og innovationsevne i forhold til USA og Kina. Musik, kultur, teknologi og storpolitik er for alvor stødt sammen i AI’ens tidsalder.
