It is at once cryptic and crystal clear when Vene unfolds his poetic universe on the debut EP ‘Drømte Jorder’, released on June 12.
In recent years, Lasse Jensen has shaken up the Copenhagen experimental and activist underground scene as the frontman of the post-punk wunderkinds Echo, Bravo, and now he challenges the folk genre with his solo project Vene.
On tracks such as ‘Kystblomst’, ‘Benrad’, and ‘Af det Fremmede Blod’, we hear Vene and his distinctive raw, dark vocals, which both contrast with and harmonize the twisted and poetic lyrics. The lyrics explore an emotional life marked by recurring depression and the experience of losing control over one’s life.
Vene is a band made up of close friends from both his home base Echo, Bravo, and from kindred spirits in Tender Youth and Erstat; Tiger, Tomás, Vitus, and Noa all contribute something unique, and together they create the characteristic sound that defines his solo project Vene.
Vene will perform at SPOT on May 1 and at Pumpehuset’s Byhave on May 18, and you can also experience them this summer at Frigjort Festival, among others. The EP ‘Drømte Jorder’ will be released on FIVE FOOT ONE RECORDS on June 12.
