The band MÍO have earned a reputation as one of the underground's most exceptional live experiences, with their boundary-breaking musical world. The folk-rock band has had an incredibly active live career in recent years, performing at hundreds of venues and festivals both in Norway and abroad, and leaving a massive impression with their explosive, unpretentious, and engaging concerts.
With roots in Oslo’s punk and rock scene, their music draws rich inspiration from Norwegian rock, punk, and folk music - hard-hitting and dynamic, featuring hardanger fiddle and a vast arsenal of folk instruments from around the world. With a front vocalist delivering raw vocals power and an immense stage presence and expressive ability, supported by a tight, playful, and energetic band, the result is an unforgettable musical force.
The band’s debut album ‘Ingen tid å miste’ was released in 2023 and was awarded 1st place by The Nordic Sound as “Best Nordic Release.” In 2025, MÍO released their long-awaited second album ‘Hva nå?’ on By Norse Music, which also received overwhelmingly positive reviews. It has been described as “melodically sharp, dynamic, well-crafted, raw, and quite exceptional in its Norwegian contemporary scene” by Geir Larzen from Norway Rock Magazine.
On ‘Hva nå?’, MÍO takes their music in a darker, gloomier, and harder direction than before - shaped by an uncertain, heavy, and challenging present, reflected in an album that vibrates with frustration, anger, and apathy, all wrapped in a modern folk-rock expression. MÍO’s musical universe and live performances has been described to be a phenomenon that must be experienced in person - come and be a part of the fairytale! MÍO is Dionisia Fjelldalen (vocals), Maja Hveding Styffe (fiddle and Hardanger fiddle), Hennie Hagen Johnsen (accordion, key harp, flute, keys, and more), Jakob Nome (guitar), Marianne Friisberg Larssen (bass) and Eilif Hallingstad Finnseth (drums and percussion)
