Folky Dayparty is back at SPOT Festival. This time, the musical project Borders and Bridges is presented, along with the artist Søren Manscher, as part of the day party programme.
Borders and Bridges breaks down geographical and musical boundaries and builds bridges between cultures, genres, and artistic expressions. The concept is a different kind of concert format, where the participating artists together create a performance consisting of each artist’s repertoire, along with a series of new works and compositions created specifically for the occasion, based on the forms of expression and instrumentation they collectively represent.
The artists come together in a unique musical collaboration around the material they have prepared and presented to one another in the months leading up to the premiere. The idea is to combine different forms of expression in a concert that can include storytelling, instrumental music, songs, poetry, and dance. The participating artists are the Swedish duo Hazelius/Hedin, singer-songwriter and storyteller M.C. Hansen, and the award-winning folk duo Fromseier/Hockings.
Søren Manscher’s intense everyday songs are written on guitar and performed live as a trio, which adds an electric and rich energy to the otherwise stripped-down compositions. His songs focus on the absurdity, the idyllic, and the sense of powerlessness, and with an almost spoken-word-like approach over catchy melodies in a wide vocal range, he tells stories ranging from a journey across Denmark in the classic road song “Jeg Blaffer” to the difficult themes of forgiveness and acceptance in “Jeg Ønsker Dig Et Godt Liv.”
