Ida Wenøe has carved out her own unique musical space by blending international influences such as Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, Bill Callahan, Bedouine, Leonard Cohen, Vashti Bunyan, and Beth Gibbons with her Danish roots. These roots stretch from traditional folk music and the Danish Højskolesangbog to composers like Carl Nielsen and Sebastian, all filtered through a clear inspiration from English folk.
Since the release of her debut album ‘Time of Ghosts’ in 2015, Wenøe has played hundreds of concerts across Europe and North America. Her music has been featured on outlets such as DR (Danish National Radio), BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 4 in the UK, as well as KEXP and WXNA in the US.
Ida Wenøe is known for her dense and poetic storytelling, often drawing inspiration from nature. Her voice carries both raw emotion and strength, with threads linking back to the folk traditions of the ‘60s and ‘70s - yet always delivered with her own distinct touch. Her accompaniment is characterized by subtle yet insistent guitar work, complemented by violin, double bass, flutes, and soaring vocal harmonies.
Wenøe’s latest album ‘Undersea’ was released in 2023 to glowing international reviews and received airplay on BBC Radio and numerous independent stations around the world. The album has since been followed by concerts in Sweden and Denmark, and in autumn 2024, she will embark on a longer tour through England and Wales.
She has also released an EP and a mini-album as part of the creative collaboration ‘Whates & Wenøe’ with Samantha Whates. Their most recent release, ‘Loopy & Esther’, came out in November 2024 and received airplay in both the UK and the US.
