Soon, a new project will come to life, focusing on the young entrepreneurs in music. Live Incubator is being created with support from, among others, the European Cultural Region and Tuborg Foundation. As the project’s title suggests, it aims to function as an incubator for future talents in the music industry, fostering collaborative projects and ideas.
Live Incubator is created and developed in collaboration between the venue Fermaten in Herning and the Aarhus showcase festival SPOT. The latter will also host the final Incubator camp in Aarhus in May. Based on the common challenges in the industry and the innovative ideas that can arise internationally, 10 young individuals from Midtjylland, Denmark and 10 from other European countries will collaborate to create projects that can thrive in the present and extend into the future. Project leader Esben Aarup from Fermaten shares his insights about the project:
“It’s only been half a year since Maria Kaimaklioti (from Scala, Cyprus) and I came up with the idea of bringing together the new music industry to develop new projects and foster more collaboration across Europe when we were at a conference in Budapest. That the project is already becoming a reality is truly significant for us, and we’re incredibly excited to get started.”
Partnership and Organization
Just as Live Incubator is created for future collaboration, the partners behind the project form a constellation of forces with diverse experiences, contributing to creating the best conditions for new players in the industry.
For many years, Fermaten has focused on working with young organizers and talent development in the smaller cities, while SPOT’s DNA has always been to create a platform for new talents and the best conditions for international collaboration. It is precisely in the intersection of these focus areas that the idea of Live Incubator has emerged – with support from CDEU and Tuborg Foundation and in collaboration with the Cypriot organization, Scala, which will also contribute to parts of the process.
Selection of Participants
The project is now a reality, set to unfold this spring with the selection of the 20 participants as the first part of the process. Ten Danish and ten international participants will engage in online workshops in March and April, as well as a boot camp during the SPOT 2024 week, culminating in a presentation as part of the SPOT+ industry track – hopefully generating projects and ideas that will come to life in the world afterward.
Since the project’s inception in December 2023, a nomination committee from, among others, the SPOT Festival and Fermaten has mapped potential participants from the music industry in Midtjylland aged 20-30. Based on this work, the selection and composition of participants will take place in the coming weeks. Additionally, suggestions for other potential candidates are welcome through contact with SPOT’s director Rikke Andersen at rikke@spotfestival.dk. Deadline for submitting possible candidates is January 20th.

Snart ser et nyt projekt dagens lys, hvor fokus er på de nyeste brancheaktører i musikken. Live Incubator bliver til med støttemidler fra bl.a. Europæisk Kulturregion og Tuborgfondet, og som en del af projektets titel indikerer, skal det netop fungere som en rugekasse for fremtidige talenter i musikbranchen – og alle de gode projekter og ideer de i fællesskab kan frembringe.
Live Incubator er udtænkt og skabt i et samarbejde mellem spillestedet Fermaten i Herning og den aarhusianske showcasefestival SPOT, hvor sidstnævnte også kommer til at danne rammerne for den endelige Incubator-camp i Aarhus til maj. Med afsæt i de fælles udfordringer i branchen og de nye tanker, der kan skabes tværnationalt, skal 10 unge fra Midtjylland og 10 fra andre europæiske lande sammen skabe projekter, som både kan leve nu, men også række ud i fremtiden. Projektleder Esben Aarup fra Fermaten fortæller om projektet:
“Det er faktisk kun et halvt år siden, at Maria Kaimaklioti (fra Scala, Cypern) og jeg fik ideen om at samle den nye musikbranche om at udvikle nye projekter og skabe mere samarbejde tværs af Europa, da vi sammen var på en konference i Budapest. At projektet allerede nu bliver til virkelighed er derfor virkelig stort for os, og vi glæder os helt vildt til at komme i gang.”
Partnerskab og organisering
På samme måde som Live Incubator er skabt for fremtidigt samarbejde, er partnerne bag projektet også en konstellation af kræfter med forskellige erfaringer, der skal bidrage til at skabe de bedste vilkår for nye aktører i branchen.
Fermaten har i mange år fokuseret på arbejdet med unge arrangører og talentudviklingen i mindre byer, mens SPOTs DNA altid har været at skabe en platform for nye talenter og de bedste forhold for internationalt samarbejde. Og det er netop i krydsfeltet af disse fokusområder, at ideen om Live Incubator er blevet til – med støtte fra CDEU og Tuborgfondet og i samarbejde med cypriotiske Scala, der også vil bidrage til dele af indholdet i processen.
Udvælgelse af deltagere
Projektet er nu en realitet, der skal folde sig ud dette forår med udvælgelsen af de 20 deltagere, som den første del af processen. 10 danske og 10 internationale deltagere kommer til at tage del i nogle online workshops i marts og april, samt en bootcamp i ugen under SPOT 2024, der til slut munder ud i et oplæg som en del af branchesporet SPOT+ – og forhåbentligt er der i denne periode skabt nogle projekter og ideer, der skal ud og leve i verden efterfølgende.
Siden projektets start i december 2023 har et nomineringsudvalg fra bl.a. SPOT Festival og Fermaten kortlagt potentielle midtjyske deltagere fra musikbranchen i alderen 20-30 år, og på baggrund af dette arbejde sker udvælgelsen og sammensætningen af deltagere i løbet af de kommende uger. Derudover modtages bud på andre potentielle kandidater meget gerne ved kontakt til SPOTs leder Rikke Andersen på rikke@spotfestival.dk frem til d. 20. januar.
