Swedish singer-songwriter Säg mig is a perfect example of how excellent songwriting and a genuine stage presence is what makes an artist in the long run. ‘Säg mig’ is Swedish for ‘Tell me’, and telling stories is something the Stockholm-born Alva Fährlin does better than most. With carefully crafted lyrics and playful melodies that combine influences from folk, pop, and jazz, Säg mig has slowly but steadily built an audience all across Sweden. What started as a self-recorded songwriting project is now a developing indie artist featured on radio, selling out shows, and above all, connecting with fans all over Scandinavia.
Her most recent EP ‘Det man låter bli att prata om’ (‘What we don’t talk about’) features Säg mig’s most personal lyrics yet, exploring topics of loneliness, societal pressure and the urge to keep our insecurities to ourselves.
Watching Säg mig and her band play live is an emotional experience. Fährlin's letter-like lyrics and intimate voice are earnest and vulnerable, and even the uptempo songs carry a hint of Scandinavian melancholy. Yet, Säg mig always manages to leave us with the quiet conviction that, in the end, everything will be alright.
