With three albums released in less than two years, the Stockholm band Agitator moves as fiercely in the studio as they do on stage. Their third album, ‘Året av sex’, marks a darker and slower chapter for the band, drawing inspiration from chanting witch doctors as well as electronic avant-garde music.
The lyrics on ‘Året av sex’ are darker, more dangerous, and more precise than before. They rush forward in associative bursts, reminiscent of beat poetry, filled with Freudian shadows and strange, intimate imagery. Inspiration ranges from dark mysticism to something as simple as strawberry ice cream. Within the album’s broader sonic landscape, the stories take on a central role in shaping this new version of Agitator.
Like ingredients in a shared cauldron, each band member adds their own element to the sound. The result is music that moves in many directions while maintaining a living, organic pulse. The band cites influences such as 22-Pistepirkko, The Cure, techno, and psychoanalysis, and more recently artists and figures like Nina Simone, Tricky, and Sture Dahlström.
