EN DK

At this year’s SPOT+, we present a series of Danish and international experts who will enlighten us with the latest knowledge and research within the music industry – this year with a special focus on streaming and diversity. Meet Will Page, Hanna Kahlert, Frederik Juul, Sally Gross, and Chris Cooke.

As the former Chief Economist of Spotify and PRS for Music, and the author behind the critically acclaimed book ‘Tarzan Economics’, Will Page, pioneered Rockonomics. Last year we didn’t even know how to pronounce the tongue-twisting word “glocalisatio”’ yet it has become the phrase du jour this year. Why is it that local bands are getting to the top of their local charts in their local language on global platforms, contrary to what theory predicted? In this keynote, Will Page will explain why “glocalisation” is happening and what it means.

Hanna Kahlert is Cultural Trends Analyst at MIDiA Research. With a focus on cultural trends and audience insights, she has worked on a number of recurring projects including three recent publications of the Be The Change: Women In Music study. In her keynote, ‘Music in the post-streaming era, Hanna will display some of the challenges and opportunities the music industry is facing in the future.

Join Ph.D. candidate at Sorbonne University Frederik Juul for a revealing presentation on the evolution of payment systems in music streaming. With Spotify, Apple, and Deezer all making significant changes, the landscape is shifting to better support emerging and professional artists. But will these modifications truly fulfill their mission? Drawing from his research in music streaming economics, Frederik will shed light on the financial impact of alternative payment systems and track allocation methods.

As a music business consultant, author, academic, and researcher at the University of Westminster, Sally Gross has been working in the music industry for over three decades. She is internationally recognized for having contributed towards raising awareness of the issues of inclusivity, diversity, and equality of access across the music industries. In 2023 she co-wrote and published the report ‘When Music Speaks: Mental Health and Next Steps in the Danish Music Industry’, which she will present and elaborate results frem in this keynote.

Chris Cooke is co-Founder and MD of CMU, a company that helps people navigate and understand the music business through media, consultancy and training. He wrote the acclaimed ‘Dissecting The Digital Dollar’ book and ‘Music Copyright Explained’ guide. At SPOT+, Chris Cooke will give a presentation as a part of our Let’s Talk Streaming seminar.
