A new Nordic initiative, Nordic Festival Talent Exchange, was launched at SPOT Festival 2026, marking the first step towards a more integrated and international Nordic music circuit.
The initiative unites three of the region’s most vital showcase platforms; SPOT Festival (Denmark), Iceland Airwaves (Iceland), and by:Larm (Norway), and their respective national music offices; Music Export Denmark, Music Norway and Iceland Music, in a shared mission to move artists across these borders with more intention and less friction.
Supported by the Nordic Culture Fund, the project is a direct response to an increasingly complicated international touring market, where financial pressures and “pay-to-play” models threaten curatorial integrity. The Nordic Festival Talent Exchange meets these challenges by offering artists tangible support alongside a streamlined route to the region’s most vital showcase stages. By sharing local knowledge and curated shortlists, the festivals and music offices ensure the North’s most promising talent reaches the stages they deserve.
“Nordic Festival Talent Exchange represents an important step towards a more connected and resilient Nordic music ecosystem. By aligning our efforts across borders, we aim to strengthen both artistic development and international opportunities for Nordic artists,” say the project partners.
The one-year pilot project will include coordinated showcases at by:Larm (September 2026), Iceland Airwaves (November 2026), and SPOT Festival (May 2027), alongside industry programming at each stop.
The project’s intention is to expand the collaboration to include additional Nordic, and even Baltic, partners, because stronger festivals and better opportunities for artists are, ultimately, the same goal.
The project is supported by the Nordic Culture Fund.

Et nyt nordisk initiativ, Nordic Festival Talent Exchange, blev lanceret på SPOT Festival 2026 og markerer det første skridt mod et mere integreret og internationalt nordisk musiklandskab.
Initiativet samler tre af regionens vigtigste showcase-platforme; SPOT Festival (Danmark), Iceland Airwaves (Island) og by:Larm (Norge), samt deres respektive nationale musikeksportkontorer; Music Export Denmark, Music Norway og Iceland Music, i en fælles mission om at bevæge artister på tværs af disse grænser med større intention og mindre friktion.
Støttet af Nordisk Kulturfond er projektet et direkte svar på et stadig mere komplekst internationalt turnémarked, hvor økonomisk pres og “pay-to-play”-modeller truer den kuratoriske integritet. Nordic Festival Talent Exchange imødekommer disse udfordringer ved at tilbyde artister konkret støtte samt en mere strømlinet adgang til regionens vigtigste showcase-scener. Ved at dele lokal viden og kuraterede shortlister sikrer festivalerne og musikeksportkontorerne, at Nordens mest lovende talenter når de scener, de fortjener.

Det etårige pilotprojekt vil omfatte koordinerede showcases på by:Larm (september 2026), Iceland Airwaves (november 2026) og SPOT Festival (maj 2027), samt brancheprogrammer ved hvert stop.
Projektets ambition er at udvide samarbejdet til også at omfatte yderligere nordiske – og endda baltiske – partnere, da stærkere festivaler og bedre muligheder for artister i sidste ende er det samme mål.
