SPOT FLUX launches open call in the categories New Chamber Music and Sound Art

In connection with SPOT FLUX 2027, SPOT Festival, the Danish Composers’ Society and Art Music Denmark are launching an open call in two categories: 1) New Chamber Music and 2) Sound Art.

SPOT FLUX
SPOT FLUX is art music’s contribution to SPOT Festival, which takes place in Aarhus every year in early May. Since 2024, SPOT FLUX has presented showcase concerts with Danish ensembles and composers, alongside industry and networking events.

The purpose of SPOT FLUX is to connect practitioners with ties to the Danish art music scene with both the Danish and international music industry, while also presenting innovative concerts and sound art to a curious audience at SPOT.

As a participating artist in SPOT FLUX, you should therefore be ready to communicate your music or sound art both to the festival’s audience and to bookers, festival and ensemble directors and others from Denmark and abroad who attend the festival to gain inspiration, build networks and enter into new collaborations.

SPOT Festival takes place May 7-8, 2027 in Aarhus.

Category 1: New Chamber Music
Who can apply?
If you’re a soloist, ensemble or music group, you can apply for a 30-40 minute showcase concert at SPOT FLUX. Ensembles of all sizes can apply.

What do we emphasize?
Collaborations between composers and musicians are central to SPOT FLUX, and it is a requirement that the concert predominantly features new Danish music.

In addition, we emphasize:

  • the artistic quality of the project
  • suitability in relation to SPOT’s industry program, audience and production capabilities
  • the project’s international potential and touring opportunities

Participating with new chamber music at SPOT FLUX

If you are selected for SPOT FLUX 2027, you will have the opportunity to:

  • play on Friday, May 7, 2027 in Musikhuset Aarhus’s “Chamber Music Hall” for a broad audience and an international environment
  • take part in an industry program aimed at artists at SPOT FLUX
  • receive guidance for your career, promotion or similar with a mentor or a meeting with a relevant industry figure – e.g. a music supervisor
  • be part of SPOT’s vibrant festival more broadly

Terms:
The ensembles and soloists selected for SPOT FLUX will receive a fee corresponding to the Danish Musicians’ Union rate per performing musician, in line with SPOT Festival’s concert fees more generally.

As a starting point, Musikhuset Aarhus’s standard production facilities will be made available. If special setup, production or technical assistance is needed (for example special instruments, lighting or similar), this must be described in the application.

A grand piano (C-flygel) will be available. If you need to play inside the piano or use prepared piano, this must be stated in the application.

There is also the option of having a meal in SPOT’s canteen in connection with the concert. Please note that alcoholic beverages are not included.

Any additional expenses for e.g. transport, accommodation, work development, rehearsals ahead of SPOT, and your own production costs are not covered.

It is possible to apply for support for national and international transport through Art Music Denmark.

Category 2: Sound Art

Who can apply?
If you’re a sound artist, you can apply to participate with various sound art formats, e.g.:

  • An auditory work for 1 or more speakers
  • A media work, e.g. a music film
  • A performance or similar

The category is not fixed in style or expression, but we are primarily interested in works suited to Musikhuset Aarhus’s Café Stage.

The Café Stage at Musikhuset is the meeting place for SPOT FLUX. The stage is open and located in the middle of Musikhuset, close to the pulsing heart of SPOT Festival. The stage cannot be closed off, and quiet around the stage cannot be guaranteed – in return, there is wide scope for presenting sound art to a broad SPOT audience.

In addition to the Café Stage, there will be an opportunity to present music films on separate screens with headphones elsewhere in Musikhuset.

What do we emphasize?
You can only apply with an existing work – ideas for new works will therefore not be considered. The work and/or the artists must have a connection to Denmark. We emphasize:

  • the artistic quality of the work
  • suitability in relation to SPOT’s audience and production capabilities
  • the work’s international potential and touring opportunities
  • the work’s suitability for presentation on the Café Stage or as a music film on separate screens
  • that the artist is present at their own performance

Participating in SPOT FLUX when applying with “Sound Art”
If you are selected for SPOT FLUX 2027, you will have the opportunity to:

  • present the work during SPOT – as a starting point on the Café Stage at Musikhuset Aarhus and/or on separate screens with headphones
  • take part in an industry program aimed at artists at SPOT FLUX
  • receive guidance for your career, promotion or similar with a mentor or a meeting with a relevant industry figure – e.g. a music supervisor
  • be part of SPOT’s vibrant festival more broadly

In the application form below, you must include an estimated budget stating all expense items, including rights costs.

Terms:
SPOT FLUX covers expenses for technical equipment, materials and fees for participants. Projects selected for SPOT FLUX 2027 will receive a fee corresponding to the Danish Musicians’ Union rate per participating performer/sound artist/musician, in line with SPOT Festival’s concert fees more generally.

SPOT Festival provides production facilities and technical staff, and the final production budget is approved in collaboration with SPOT’s production team in connection with entering into a contract.

It is a prerequisite that the artists themselves can set up the work with minimal assistance, and that setup and teardown can be done quickly.

All participants have the option of having a meal in SPOT’s canteen in connection with the performance. Please note that alcoholic beverages are not included.

Personal transport, accommodation and expenses for work preparation are not covered. It is possible to apply for support for national and international transport through Art Music Denmark.

About the project’s finances

PLEASE NOTE: SPOT FLUX’s total concert budget is limited. Applications with very large budgets and a great need for support will therefore not be considered.

Deadline, selection and application

Applications are submitted by completing the application form (see link above)

Application deadline: November 5th, 2026, 2:00 PM

After the deadline, all applications will be assessed by two juries for SPOT FLUX 2027, consisting of professional representatives from Art Music Denmark’s Music Committee, the Danish Composers’ Society’s Production Support Committee, and SPOT Festival.

The final selection of works takes place in collaboration with SPOT Festival’s production team, in relation to what is technically feasible.

I forbindelse med SPOT FLUX 2027 lancerer SPOT Festival, Dansk Komponistforening og Art Music Denmark et open call i to kategorier: 1) Ny kammermusik og 2) Lydkunst.

SPOT FLUX
SPOT FLUX er kunstmusikkens bidrag til SPOT Festival, som finder sted i Aarhus hvert år i begyndelsen af maj. SPOT FLUX har siden 2024 præsenteret showcasekoncerter med danske ensembler og komponister foruden branche- og netværksevents. 

Formålet med SPOT FLUX er at sætte aktører med tilknytning til de  danske kunstmusikmiljøer i forbindelse med både den danske og internationale musikbranche og samtidig præsentere nyskabende koncerter og lydkunst for et nysgerrigt publikum på SPOT. 

Som medvirkende kunstner i SPOT FLUX skal du derfor være klar til at formidle din musik eller lydkunst både til festivalens publikum og til bookere, festival- og ensembleledere m.fl. fra ind- og udland, der deltager i festivalen for at få inspiration, udvikle netværk og indgå nye samarbejder.

SPOT Festival finder sted 7.-8. maj 2027 i Aarhus.

Kategori 1: Ny kammermusik

Hvem kan søge?
Er du solist, ensemble eller musikgruppe, kan du søge om en 30-40 minutters showcasekoncert på SPOT FLUX. Ensembler af alle størrelser kan ansøge.

Hvad lægger vi vægt på?
Samarbejder mellem komponister og musikere står centralt i SPOT FLUX, og det er et krav, at der overvejende præsenteres ny dansk musik ved koncerten.

Derudover lægger vi vægt på

  • projektets kunstneriske kvalitet
  • egnethed ift. SPOTs brancheprogram, publikum og produktionsmuligheder
  • projektets internationale potentiale og mulighed for turné

Deltagelse med ny kammermusik på SPOT FLUX 

Bliver du/I valgt ud til SPOT FLUX 2027, vil du/I få mulighed for 

  • at spille fredag 7. maj 2027 i Musikhuset Aarhus´ “Kammermusiksal” for et bredt publikum og et internationalt miljø
  • at tage del i et brancheprogram målrettet kunstnere i SPOT FLUX
  • at få sparring til din karriere, promovering eller lign. med en mentor eller et møde med en relevant brancheprofil – fx en music supervisor. 
  • at være en del af SPOTs pulserende festival i øvrigt

Vilkår:
De ensembler og solister, der udvælges til SPOT FLUX, vil modtage et honorar svarende til Dansk Musiker Forbunds tarif pr. optrædende musiker, i lighed med SPOT Festivals koncerthonorering i øvrigt. 

Som udgangspunkt stilles Musikhuset Aarhus’ normale produktionsfaciliteter til rådighed. Hvis der er behov for særlig opstilling, produktion eller teknisk assistance (for eksempel særlige instrumenter, lyssætning eller lignende), skal dette beskrives i ansøgningen. 

Der vil være et C-flygel til rådighed. Skal du spille inside eller præpareret skal dette angives i ansøgningen

Der er samtidig mulighed for at få et måltid i SPOTs kantine i forbindelse med koncerten. Bemærk at alkoholiske drikkevarer ikke er inkluderet.

Eventuelle øvrige udgifter til f.eks. transport, overnatning, værkudvikling, prøver forud for SPOT og egne produktionsomkostninger dækkes ikke. 

Der er mulighed for at søge om støtte til national og international transport gennem Art Music Denmark.

Kategori 2: Lydkunst

Hvem kan søge?
Er du lydkunstner, kan du søge om deltagelse med forskellige lydkunstformater, f.eks.:

  • Auditivt værk for 1 eller flere højttalere
  • Medieværk, f.eks. musikfilm
  • Performance eller lignende

Kategorien er ikke låst i stil eller udtryk, men vi er primært interesseret i værker, der passer til Musikhuset Aarhus’ Caféscene. 

Caféscenen i Musikhuset er mødestedet for SPOT FLUX. Scenen er åben og ligger midt i Musikhuset og tæt ved SPOT Festivals pulserende hjerte. Scenen kan ikke lukkes af og ro ved scenen kan ikke garanteres – til gengæld er der vide muligheder for at præsentere lydkunst for et bredt SPOT-publikum.

Udover Caféscenen vil der være mulighed for præsentation af musikfilm på separate skærme med høretelefoner andre steder i Musikhuset.

Hvad lægger vi vægt på?
Du kan kun søge med et eksisterende værk – idéer til nye værker vil derfor ikke blive taget i betragtning. Værket og/eller kunstnerne skal have tilknytning til Danmark. Vi lægger vægt på:

  • værkets kunstneriske kvalitet
  • egnethed ift. SPOTs publikum og produktionsmuligheder
  • værkets internationale potentiale og mulighed for turné
  • værkets egnethed til visning på Caféscenen eller som musikfilm på separate skærme
  • at kunstneren er til stede ved egen opførsel

Deltagelse på SPOT FLUX når du deltager med “Lydkunst”

Bliver du / I valgt ud til SPOT FLUX 2027, vil du få mulighed for 

  • at præsentere værket under SPOT – som udgangspunkt på Caféscenen i Musikhuset Aarhus og/eller på separate skærme med høretelefoner
  • at tage del i et brancheprogram målrettet kunstnere i SPOT FLUX
  • At få sparring til din karriere, promovering eller lign. med en mentor eller et møde med en relevant brancheprofil – fx en music supervisor. 
  • at være en del af SPOTs pulserende festival i øvrigt

I ansøgningsformularen herunder skal du medsende et anslået budget med angivelse af alle udgiftsposter inkl. rettighedsudgifter. 

Vilkår:
SPOT FLUX dækker udgifter til teknik, materialer og honorar til medvirkende. Projekter, der udvælges til SPOT FLUX 2027, vil modtage et honorar svarende til Dansk Musikerforbunds tarif per medvirkende performer/lydkunstner/musiker, i lighed med SPOT Festivals koncerthonorering i øvrigt. 

SPOT Festival stiller produktionsfaciliteter samt teknisk personale til rådighed, og det endelige produktionsbudget godkendes i samarbejde med SPOTs produktionsteam ifm. indgåelse af kontrakt. 

Det er en forudsætning, at kunstnerne selv kan opsætte værket med minimal hjælp, og at op- og nedtagning kan gøres hurtigt.

Alle medvirkende har mulighed for at få et måltid i SPOTs kantine i forbindelse med opførelsen. Bemærk at alkoholiske drikkevarer ikke er inkluderet.

Persontransport, overnatning samt udgifter til værkforberedelse dækkes ikke. Det er muligt at søge om støtte til national og international transport gennem Art Music Denmark.

Om projektets økonomi

BEMÆRK: SPOT FLUX samlede koncertbudget er begrænset. Ansøgninger med meget store budgetter og med et stort støttebehov vil derfor ikke komme i betragtning.

Efter deadline vurderes alle ansøgninger af to juryer for SPOT FLUX 2027, som består af faglige repræsentanter fra Art Music Denmarks Musikfaglige Udvalg, Dansk Komponistforenings Produktionsstøtteudvalg og SPOT Festival.
