The Ethel Award was established by pianist, composer, and studio lecturer Pia Rasmussen, who was a central figure in the 1970s women's music scene. It is awarded to individuals who have made a special effort to promote the conditions for female musicians, gender balance, and diversity in Danish music life.
The award consists of an "Ethel" – a sculpture depicting Ethel Smyth, created by sculptor Malene Bjelke – along with 25,000 Danish kroner.
We look forward to seeing who the 8th recipient of the award will be when the Ethel Award is presented at SPOT 2024 prior to the concert with Astrid Engberg in the Rytmisk Sal on Saturday at 17:10 PM
