During this session, you can meet some of Denmark’s most interesting contemporary composers through presentations of selected works, projects or creative concepts. 

 

Kirstine Lindemann: Cyborg Songs and the Openings of the Impossible

Composer Kirstine Lindemann is researching the potential of the human meeting with the machine anno 2024. In the piece, 'Cyborg Songs', she is feeding artificial intelligence with fragments of opera which AI characters attempt - and fail - to interpret with certain dialects and characteristics of the voice. Through their failed attempts, AI opens up an opportunity to reinterpret the opera diva as a character. What does she sound like through the ears of an AI? This project shows the potential of the impossible and the doors we open when working with failure. This talk is not only about opera and AI, it's also about the twists and turns of creative processes and the unexpected gifts of failure.

 

Lil Lacy: Site specific works

Based on her work 'Concert for a Space and Time', composer Lil Lacy will talk about composing music for places that are not usually used for concerts - in this case the Scandinavian Congress Center in Aarhus; About the collaboration with the participating singers, musicians, conductor and dramatist, about practical production challenges, and not least about how the audience meets the music when you take it out of the concert hall.

 

Mette Nielsen: Symbiotic composition

Composer Mette Nielsen will talk about writing music in close collaboration with groups of musicians and singers based on their specific abilities and prerequisites, and how she uses this to shape the music in a more symbiotic way. This way of composing contrasts with a more traditional commissioning practice, where the composer does not necessarily meet the musicians that the music is written for. 

 

Li-Ying Wu: Making new sounds for all audiences

In this pitch composer Li-Ying Wu will talk about composing contemporary orchestral music that appeals to a large audience.

I løbet af denne session kan du møde nogle af Danmarks mest interessante samtidskomponister gennem præsentationer af udvalgte værker, projekter og kreative koncepter.

 

Kirstine Lindemann: Cyborg Songs og åbningerne i det umulige

Komponist Kirstine Lindemann er blevet optaget af at undersøge, hvilket potentiale mødet mellem menneske og maskine kan åbne, anno 2024. I arbejdet med værket 'Cyborg Songs' for sopran og ensemble tager hun udgangspunkt i AI's forsøg på at fortolke indsungne operafragmenter med forskellige accenter og karakteristika. Her kommer den kunstige intelligens imidlertid til kort, og i fejlslagne fortolkningsforsøg åbner AI i stedet en mulighed for at genfortolke operadivaen som karakter. Hvad lyder hun som gennem AI’s ører? Dette projekt viser potentialet i det umulige, og dørene vi åbner, når vi lader fejlene træde ind i processen. På den måde bliver denne talk ikke kun om opera og AI, men også en demonstration af de kreative processers snoede veje, og de uventede gaver det fejlslagne kan bringe med sig.

 

Lil Lacy: Stedspecifikke værker

Med udgangspunkt i sit værk 'Concert for a Space and Time' fortæller komponisten Lil Lacy om at komponere musik til steder, som ellers ikke bruges til koncerter - i dette tilfælde Scandinavian Congress Center, Aarhus; Om samarbejdet med de medvirkende sangere, musikere, dirigent og dramatiker, om praktiske produktionsmæssige udfordringer, og ikke mindst om hvordan publikum møder musikken, når man tager den ud af koncertsalen.

 

Mette Nielsen: Symbiotisk komposition

Komponist Mette Nielsen fortæller om at skrive musik i tæt samarbejde med grupper af musikere og sangere, som tager udgangspunkt i deres specifikke evner og forudsætninger, og hvordan hun udnytter dette til at forme musikken på en mere symbiotisk måde. Denne måde at komponere på står i kontrast til en mere traditionel bestillingspraksis, hvor komponisten ikke nødvendigvis møder de musikere, som skal spille musikken.

 

Li-Ying Wu: Nye lyde for alle publikummer

I denne præsentation vil komponist Li-Ying Wu fortælle om at komponere moderne orkestermusik, som appellerer til et stort og alsidigt publikum.
