Seven Danish acts and one Norwegian duo will be part of the campaign at Tønder Festival on the 23rd and 24th of August.
Since 2012, Folk Spot Denmark has presented Danish folk / roots bands with ambitions of reaching a larger audience both nationally and in particular internationally.
The organizers behind the initiative are SPOT Festival and the Tønder Festival. The two parties share the ambition to export and facilitate and promote the export of Danish and Nordic folk/roots music. While SPOT has many years of experience with the export of Danish music and celebrates its 25th anniversary, Tønder Festival has been one of the leading folk and roots festivals in Europe for more than 40 years. Drawing on the huge international networks of both festivals it is the ambition to create more international opportunities for Danish folk/ roots acts.
Once again this year, seven Danish folk / roots orchestras as well as one Norwegian act have been selected by an international industry jury. The eight acts are: Fromseier Hockings, Mads Hansens Kapel, Phønix & Embla, Rannok, Trio Svin, Vesselil, VÍÍK and Norwegian Odde & Nilssen (see the presentations of the acts here). As part of Folk SPOT Denmark they are all going to play showcase concerts at Tønder Festival on the 23rd and 24th of August.
In line with the ambition to cultivate networks to further the bands’ international careers, international music industry and media people will attend the eight concerts. At the same time the showcases will also be open to the general festival audience.
At Folk SPOT Denmark the music industry people get really close to the musicians and get a sense of the environment that the music exists in. The event also gives the invited guests the opportunity to experience Tønder Festival, which has been a defining folk and roots festival in Europe for more than 40 years.
